Jazz Music
When I was 13, I remember driving down 16th Avenue in Calgary and listening to the Andrews Sisters. It was Christmas time with a light snow on the road and the song playing was "I'd Like To Hitch A Ride With Santa Claus". And my soul said, "I could listen to this kind of music forever". It was Jazz music.
My Grandpa (on my Dad's side) was an incredible piano player that played by ear and he loved to play Jazz. He used to go to the Calgary Stampede and play. We were talking one day and I bought up Rosemary Clooney (whom I LOVE) and he casually says, "Yeah, I saw her there once. She was a terrible drunk." I lost my mind and it was just an ordinary thing for him. I like to think he's playing Jazz piano in heaven and all I want him to do is play louder.
Then I came across Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, all the greats but then there was Ella Fitzgerald. Goodness me, she's smooth. She has colouring outside the rhythm of the instrumental music mastered and she could do it in her sleep. Ella was also the first African American woman to win a Grammy award in 1958! There are lots of great women who sing Jazz but she's my favourite.
The women of Jazz were so mysterious and managed to keep their secrets. They dressed with class and modesty. Most of my favourite Jazz comes from the 40s and the 50s so that may be another reason I like it. That era is so beautiful and a lot of that fashion will always stay in style. A bold red lip, a good black dress, and a set of pearl earrings is always a good choice. Rosemary Clooney does this well in "White Christmas". I guess you say Jazz music was the start of my dressing as a lady.
Love & Prayers,
