My Top Ten Christmas Tunes

I absolutely adore Christmas music! I'm totally the girl that listens to those classic holiday tunes in the Summer, if the Spirit moves me. There's something so magical about it! I think it shines with the "what's to come" vibe and I just love it. Plus, I usually listen to all the big band version of the songs. If you need a change of "music scenery", I've got you covered! Here are my Top 10 Christmas Tunes (and I can't put them in order! They're all so good!)

1. Snow (from the Soundtrack of the film, White Christmas):

I love this song. I grew up watching this masterpiece, choreographing my own dances and learning all the songs! Plus, this is my family's movie! I don't mean that other families can't like it, I mean if you don't like it and want to fit into my family, learn how to like it. You'll actually understand us better.

2. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (Ella Fitzgerald's version):

I received the record above last Christmas and it is so incredible! Ella has this way of colouring with all the crayons, breaking the rules while fitting into the structure of Jazz. There's no one that sings like she does. And this song, in particular, is in tons of movies and played numerous times at Christmas. If you haven't heard it yet, please go listen to it! Actually, listen to all of these!

3. I'd Like To Hitch A Ride With Santa Claus (The Andrews Sisters):

This is one of the first Jazz songs that I ever listened to and I instantly fell in love. The twinkly harmonies, the sweet story and the brass behind it. It's absolutely stunning!

4. Poppa Santa Claus (Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters):

This song is so quirky and whimsical! when you think you've had enough, they hit you with more magic and it's just as delightful! The details in this era of music were so impeccable and cheeky. I think that's the best combination!

5. Jingle Bells (Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters):

I might as well talk about their whole album but the past two songs are so magical and this one is no exception! The arrangement is so smooth and full of life! At times, there's pauses, as if to see if the audience is still listening and I love it. My Dad also puts this album on when my family decorates the tree so that could be why I'm obsessed. The memories are so special.

6. Sleigh Ride (Ella Fitzgerald's Version):

I love this song because it's so elegant and luxurious. It makes me feel like I'm back in the 50s wearing a gorgeous gown and having my own holiday party!  Ella knows how to do it.

7. Jingle Bells (Frank Sinatra's Version):

Now I realize that I've already said Jingle Bells by Bing & The Andrews Sisters, but this deserves recognition too! It's so classy and fills the room with the sophistication of the 60s. It has such a clever way to start a song that everyone has heard a million times. Frank puts up a good fight.

8. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (Michael Buble's Version):

I love this version. My one pet peeve with Michael Buble's style is that sometimes he dabs into both the Jazz and Pop world at the same time. Just pick one! I suppose that makes me a purest. But this one, he nails it. He's so smooth and it's the perfect set up for the holiday season.

9. The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole's Version):

This guy was amazing at what he did. I have a theory that John Legend is the modern day version of Nat King Cole. I love Nat's sound and the atmosphere it creates. It's warm and feels like home.

10. Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer (Jack Johnson's Version):

I was talking to some good friends of mine and we came to the conclusion that Jack Johnson's music defines the genre "Easy Listening". He's got a cool way of telling a story and it's not work to listen to his music. This song is a classic, of course, but he puts a witty spin on the ending and I think it's so cheeky! But I'm not going to tell you what it is! You have to listen for yourself.

That about wraps it up! I'm hoping that you're to tired of Christmas music yet and that I've offered some new alternatives! What are your favourites? I wanna know!

Love & Prayers,

Lauren xo
