Rustic Roses
My mother is an incredible woman. She worked in a Dermatology Clinic for years assisting surgeries. Her left brain is extremely capable and is well exercised. However, she's remarkably artistic and can envision how a project is going to look before she has started to work on it. She retired from the clinic and wanted to do something with her right brain. This is when we started Rustic Roses.
She had been researching on a way to refinish furniture with Chalk Paint and started going to workshops. She's now mastered it and refinished quite a few pieces using the Chalk Paint, Wax, and other kinds of finishes. We've always liked the rustic, modern farmhouse, or french style. The furniture within those genres have lived a life. They're worn, well loved, and often passed down from generation to generation.
One store we're both crazy about is called Anthropologie. We were so excited when a store opened up in Calgary! Sometimes we go there for dates because we are enlightened with inspiration and wonder. Then we figure out how we can create similar pieces. It's lifestyle store with pieces that have such specific character and detail that you can't find anything like it.
So what's our goal? I like to articulate it like this: to give Anthropologie style pieces for every budget. We've gone in a few markets and it's cool to see that we're doing a cool thing that a bit different than what other companies do. We're hoping to do a couple markets this year. My mom has an eye for finding one of a kind pieces in thrift shops and so all of our stuff is up cycled. "One man's trash is another man's treasure!" she says. My mom is so cool.
Love & Prayers,
Lauren xo
