Call To Be Better

This idea of being "Called To Be Better" has been floating around in my head lately. What does it entirely mean? I can't be sure. But I have a few ideas.

Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers lost a playoff game against the Gold State Warriors because one of his teammates got mixed up on the court and made a small mistake. There was a press conference after the game in which a reporter asked him in three different ways this same question, "What do you think your teammate's state of mind was when he made that choice." When first asked, Lebron replied saying that he didn't know what the motivation was behind the play but they moved forward. The second time, Lebron says, "I'm not really sure what more you'd like to know." Sure enough, the same reporter asked a third time and Lebron got up, got his briefcase, put his shades and started walking out. He cooly said while he was passing by, "Be Better Tomorrow."

"Be better tomorrow." Likely with Lebron's home life and the abilities that he had been given, he had no other choice. And I would say his work on the court speaks for itself. And yes, I am a basketball fan. He had to be the best at what he could do because it was his duty. His calling.

There have been moments in my life where I've been mediocre because I let negativity take over or I'm doing too much at once. But that's not really acceptable. Because who am I representing? The Lord. And what has he called me to do? Be Better. "Be better than the Gap" comes to mind, a line from the film, Crazy Stupid Love. But back to the point.

A lot of those times that I mentioned above (about being mediocre) had a lot of other factors that played a part, but regardless, I need to be better. I need to not be distracted but worldly things that don't matter or thoughts that don't reflect God's character. If I'm going to be an Occupational Therapist, I'm going to be the best that I can be because that's the calling. Be an example to the world and be a darn good one.

So here's my encouragement to you today. Be better. Be the person who's opens the door for everyone and not just one person. Be the person who goes above and beyond even though people won't notice (at first). Because I guarantee you, they will notice. I was watching a video in Bible Study where a character had died and so many people shared memories. And they were all about kind acts and words encouragement that they had received from this man. Be that person. Be full of the truth, encouragement, and above all, love. Be better than the Gap.

Love & Prayers,

Lauren xo
