Perspective
I've always wanted to fly. Like a bird soaring through the air, I could see everything that's going on down here. I think it would be fascinating to see what we look like. A bunch of tiny people walking around in a frenzy deeply concerned with the big things we're trying to accomplish. Although, I guess being a bird on a windy day isn't too fun but that's not the point. The perspective would be eye opening.
As I begin my pursuit of Occupational Therapy, I've been reflecting on everything that I've done up to now. Some days it doesn't feel like a lot and other days it feels like I've climbed hundreds on mid sized mountains and a few large ones. I remember always keeping myself busy, that's for sure. Played all the sports, took music lessons, went on mission trips, you name it.
Then I went to Arts School (Rosebud School of the Arts) and did a few more things. I got a Certificate in Theatre Foundations, A Diploma in Acting, became a musician who was a part of a band for a while and worked a couple part time jobs at once. I was a part of 9 professional shows totalling to around 300 professional shows before I graduated. I co-wrote, produced, and acted in my Thesis/Final Project that was remounted and toured around adding up to about 70 shows. I quickly realized that being an artist meant doing lots of things, not just an actor. I don't think that's what being an artist means for me, I think that's just me.
Now I played a few music gigs (after leaving the band), am a Developmental Aide, work part time in a lumber store, and clean my grandparents house. I've my online courses so the flexible schedule is key. As I look back at everything I've done, it all adds up and where I am now makes perfect sense. And if The Lord would have told me about all the transitions, hardships, and good things that have filled my life I would have had two things to say to Him. "I think these things are the coolest but can we skip all the things that weren't in my plan?"
So, friends, perspective is everything. If I had not done all the hard things I wouldn't have learned all the lessons that were necessary or became the woman I am today. I wouldn't have learned how to grieve stages of life, chase dreams, or to just be patient and trust God. As you look back at your life today, think about how you got there. If there are patterns, try to recognize them and decide if they're helpful or they need to be scrapped. If there were good times littered with sadness I hope you can see the good times and let them be good. And if it's too hard because of the pain in your past, I pray that you surrender that to the Lord and ask Him to go through it with you. Because He will. And in the end, when the time is right, He will allow you some perspective to see how everything fits together up til now. Because oddly enough, it does. And that's the work of the Lord.
Love & Prayers,
Lauren xo
